Veritas and DC Capital content on new Defense Ventures Wiki
Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 10:27 The origin of Defense Ventures was a business school project examining defense & security related venture capital and private equity investing. Research for the project soon focused on developing profiles (the "Player Profiles") of leading investment firms and other organizations, including corporate M&A departments at major defense contractors and even the U.S. Government itself.
As a website (and a distracting avocation for its editor), the project has expanded to deal with a range of subjects such as defense technology (especially Army technology), defense budget and acquisitions, industry & Government leaders, transatlantic M&A, financial services & dealmakers, conferences & networking --- but ultimately the most popular content has always been about the niche investment players, mostly private equity houses, that navigate the sometimes challenging and usually exciting landscape of the international defense industry.
The problem with profiling firms and publishing is that in the fast-moving world of defense M&A, information gets outdated quickly and it's very hard to keep up. With that in mind I thought a Defense Ventures Wiki would do a better job (potentially) in keeping up with the major players and, hopefully, in generating some topical exchange of information on the other areas, such as emerging defense technologies and acquisitions.
So it's back to the original starting point, and we'll see where that takes us. At the new wiki site I have started the process by re-posting the original profiles and other content related to Veritas Capital and DC Capital Partners, two firms that have been extremely successful in this sector, and whose stories are interestingly connected around major (clash of) personalities, sometimes divergent methods, and a common link around one of the marquis deals in defense PE, the multi-stage financial saga of DynCorp International.
I promise to add new & updated content around these two firms, and hopefully with the right amount of exposure we can get interested contributors to add info and perspective right into the wiki.
